The children were brimming with excitement because,
The lessons and activities were filled with holiday cheer
and they knew a 2 week vacations would soon be here!
This has been an exciting month filled with learning in the most creative of ways! Throw in a few Storm Days and it will be a race to the finish.
We are in the midst of counting down the 12 Days to Winter. Each day the children are greeted with a special box containing some holiday cheer. Today's gift of No Homework was a real crowd pleaser....for students and parents alike I'm sure! We are also writing our own versions of the song. Ask them to share some of their fabulous ideas!
Other holiday projects include a Tree-rif-ic Book Report with a focus on story elements as well as the invention of a Marvelous Toy... for our descriptive writing genre.
Just a few notes:
The concert will take place tomorrow (December 16th) at 12:30. The students need a hat and scarf for their performance.
The Holiday Dinner will be on Wednesday (December 17th) at 11:30.
Thursday will be PJ day (to compliment a special K-2 surprise).
Friday will be Red and Green Day and Grade 2 Multi-Class Activities all morning.
We are still in need of items for the Fill the Bus campaign . . . and the school wide challenge is on!
Stayed tuned for some pictures of all our holiday activities!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!
That's the BUZZ in Grade 2 Langille!
Warm Fuzzies . . . Kindness Week
The giant is combing his beard.
The snow is as high as the top of the sky,
The world has disappeared.
If you heard your little learner chanting this verse last night...it worked! Happy Snow Day to all my little friends! After all the incredible work they have been doing I am sure a day of rest was enjoyed!
Kindness Week . . . We have been learning all about friendship and how to be kind with our thoughts, words, and actions. Warm Fuzzies have been filling students hearts with compliments and we have been trying to keep the cold pricklies away! I hope you have been getting lots of Warm Fuzzies at home too!
Over the past few weeks we have been keeping busy learning all about How to or 'Procedural writing' . We explored this form of writing through . . . HOW TO procedures on drawing bees and cats, how to play safely on the playground , brushing our teeth, and making some eeewy, gooey Gak! Our class presentations on HOW TO topics have been incredible, it is obvious the students are enjoying sharing their “expertise” with their classmates.
MATH: Ta ta, da, ta, ta, ta, da, ta Patterns, is the focus in Math. We're investigating different attributes (size, shape, colour/texture and position). We are learning to identify the core and elements of a complex pattern as well as finding errors in repeating patterns. Encourage your child to create, copy and continue patterns with objects in the home. Don't forget Math games and ideas for homework are on the HOMEWORK IDEAS link so check it out. Encourage your child to do Math work every day to consolidate their learning.
We had a great day last Friday with some exciting new buddies. . . Our grade 6 friends joined us to learn about how to use the computers and our IBM Destinations Reading program. This is individualized so the students are working on reading skills, strategies and comprehension at their “just-right” level! Bonjour mes amis . . . students were also introduced to their French Buddies from Madame Betts grade 5 class. Some wonderful sharing was done and the students are already looking forward to our next visit!
