Welcome to grade 2! Our first 2 weeks of school was filled with fun and laughter. After we settled our "first day jitters" with a magical potion we hit the ground running. We learned about each other with a rousing snowball fight, made some predictions about what grade 2 might be like and then celebrated the end of the week with a special team building snack.
We continue to work on routines and procedures but have come a long way. We will be focusing on building responsibility this year, as I encourage students to choose spots on the carpet that “are best for their learning”, use the restroom during non-learning times (recess, lunch and during independent work) and bring everything they need for school each day in their BEE Bag.
During Literacy, we have gotten started on building our reading stamina. We are all able to read independently for 11 minutes!
On Monday students will be receiving their reading club homework. The children will bring home their bag of books each day to share with you. Don't fear if they have read all of their books. Re-reading is a great way to improve fluency and comprehension.
In writing, we have created a summer souvenir t-shirt which you can find hanging in our class. We will continue to work on becoming authors of our own lives.
72, 71, 70, 69...that is what is going on in math. We have been doing lots of counting forward and backwards and reviewing our grade 1 outcomes. Wanna help? Check to see if your child is doing number reversals. This is an area that can be worked on at home.
A few notes:
I know there has been an overload of forms to be filled out! Thank you for your patience and also for the timeliness returning them.
If you have not paid your $40 school fee yet, please do so on School Cash or send a cheque to school.
Please think about saving a empty Pringles can for an upcoming project.
Upcoming events:
Meet the Teacher - Thursday, September 24th @ 6:30pm
School Photos - Tuesday, September 29th
