As you can imagine, March has been busy in 2L as we play catch up with our learning goals for term 2. I am confident that with some creative planning and the focus of my amazing students we will accomplish all we need to.
This week has been a week of closure as we wrap up second term. In literacy, we are finishing up our Water Animal Non Fiction Projects and the students are excited to show them off at student led conferences next week.
During reading, I have been enjoying reading with each student and celebrating their progress. As we move into third term, please continue to read each night with a strong focus on CHECKING for UNDERSTANDING. The students’ accuracy skills have really improved but they need to stop and think more about the story as they are reading to truly comprehend.
In Math, we continue to focus on number sense. We have been working hard on addition facts to 20, building automaticity and speed. An easy way to build this skill at home is just using a deck of cards (removing face cards) and flipping up to numbers. The students have been learning the most efficient strategies and some need more practice. We have also begun learning about Geometry and I have added a few fun games to the Homework Ideas to help with naming the solids and their attributes. Check it out!
Our Flat Stanley's are out and about in the world. We are anxiously awaiting their return and look forward to mapping all the places our Flats travel to. Please encourage the receivers to send a letter, picture or postcard as soon as possible.
As I mentioned above, student led conferences are coming up on April 1st in the evening and April 2nd in the morning. The students can't wait to share all the work they have been doing with you. Please note, this activity is led by the students and is not a one on one meeting. If you feel you would like to meet with me, please contact me in the agenda and I will be happy to set up a time.
Lastly, Report Cards will go home this Friday. Your children are incredible so please take a moment to celebrate their SUCCESSES with them and review their Next Steps for term 3.
