So here are the FACTS . . . our class book about Polar Bears will be coming home with the student leader each night. Please enjoy and send back to school the next day for our next leader. Next up . . . Nonfiction has the students digging deep by using the text features we learned to find facts about their own animal of choice. You are welcome to do some reading about their animal at home or on the internet and they can add to what they have at school. Be careful though the kids know all about PLAGARISM! So smart!
In math there is a huge focus on facts to 20. We have been exploring many different strategies including making 10 and 20, doubles and near doubles, making a ten and adding more. My goal if for the students to be able to talk about their strategy and then to consider if there is a more efficient one. Any chance the students have to practice these facts at home to build on their accuracy will be very helpful.
There are many great apps and website if you just google Addition Facts to 20 games.
Here is one of my favourites:

Students have also been exploring different ways to read, write and represent numbers using money, base 10 blocks, 10 frames, number sentences, and reknreks. Here's a peek at your mathematicians!
