Well today is the first day of Spring...while discussing this yesterday, a student exclaimed "So today is the last day to play in the snow?" That particular student seemed relieved by my explanation that there would still be plenty of snow but many others did not. Even the little people have had enough of winter!
As you can imagine, life has been busy this week in 2J but the students accepted my challenge of squeezing 5 days worth of work into 2 days. Their hard work is making my job of condensing and combining much easier. I am confident that with some creative planning , a little help at home and the amazing students , we will be successful in playing catch up.
This week has been a week of closure as we wrap up second term. In literacy, we are finishing up our Water Animal Non Fiction Projects and the students are excited to show them off at student led conferences in a few weeks.
During reading, I have been enjoying reading with each student and celebrating their progress. As we move into third term, please continue to read each night with a strong focus on retelling and talking about the story. This will be more challenging with the non fiction books they bring home but practice makes progress. Also make fluency a priority by reading the same text more than one night to make it sound smooth.
In Math, we continue to focus on number sense. We have been working hard on addition facts to 20. Please continue to practice these at home. I will put some resources on the homework link and send home some ideas. ( I know, I have said this before...but I really will this time.)
Our Flat Stanley's are out and about in the world. We are anxiously awaiting their return and look forward to mapping all the places our Flats travel to. Please encourage the receivers to send a letter, picture or postcard as soon as possible.
As I mentioned above, student led conferences are coming up on April 1st in the evening and April 2nd in the morning. The students can't wait to share all the work they have been doing with you. Please note, this activity is led by the students and is not a one on one meeting. If you feel you would like to meet with me, please contact me in the agenda and I will be happy to set up a time.
Lastly, Report Cards will go home next Friday. I am so happy with all the students' have accomplished this term. Please take a moment to discuss their successes with them and set some goals for term 3.
That's all the ROAR in 2 J!
