Catch up is the name of the game in 2J this week. We have been working very hard and getting very creative in an attempt to maximize learning time lost due to mother nature and her nasty ways.
Similar to the snow outside, in literacy, we are knee deep in Non Fiction. We have begun an animal study project with a focus on water animals to tie into our Your and Your World unit. Very soon , students will be choosing a water animal to focus on. When that happens, I will send a note home to ask for help in a fact finding mission.
We are also working on writing friendly letters to send along with our Flat Stanley s. Thank you so much for providing an address and postage. We are excited to send out flat friends away and more excited to get them back and hear all about the adventures they have.
In Math, we continue to work on facts with sums to 20 and are focusing on finding the most efficient strategies. Stay tuned to the Homework Link for an overview of all the strategies we are using.
As it turns out, Grade 2 has a green thumb. We have successfully planted Wheat Grass (and lettuce for some). It grew very fast and last week we harvested it and made some delicious and nutritious wheat grass smoothies.

A few notes :
-This Thursday, we will have a small Valentine's Day celebration. Thank you to those parents that signed up to send healthy snacks.
-Thank you to those who volunteered to read during Family Literacy Day even though we got snowed out. Stay tuned for the oppurtunity to become a guest reading in our class in the near future.
-Thank you for continuing to support fundraising efforts by both staff and students at the school. A little goes a long way.
-Just a reminder from the office that morning drop off should be done in the Kiss and Ride instead of pulling into the parking lot.
That's all the ROAR in 2J
EXCEPT....Thank you so much for all the acts of appreciation this week! We are definitely feeling appreciated here at NFS!
